A slow day at the office. I only took one photo today, a Slow Shutter one on our walk in the woods.
So I supplemented with a few aremaC pics of my kitchen table, a view that I’ve posted before.

Our gardener gave us some monarch chrysalises to show Toby and Max. (We’re off to Cleveland tomorrow.) She grows milkweed, collects the eggs and watches the process from start to finish. I just, for the first time, watched a video of a chrysalis emerging from the caterpillar body. Amazing.
In the bottom photo you can see the wing veins on the left side of the chrysalis. Apparently, the 2 gold dots at the bottom will be the monarch’s eyes.
Hopefully we’ll be present when one or more of the monarchs emerge.

This is sooooooo beautiful. Oh man…. that will be AMAZING!! I hope you can see/video it!!
I just watched this…. 
They look like little enamel boxes. So beautiful. What an amazing opportunity for the boys.
What fun! We have been seeing lots of monarchs lately at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge fluttering around the habitat that was created for them. Guess it must be time for the big migration!

We drove to Cleveland today for Toby’s birthday. It rained much of the time so no pictures from the drive. This was looking out our bedroom window after we arrived, thankfully to some sunshine.

During the drive several of the chrysalises turned much darker, signaling impending hatching.
Of course the first two emerged whan we weren’t looking. Luckily, before we went for a short walk I set up my phone for a time lapse video.

Max shows his range
The first two mona we released fairly quickly started flying and fluttered up to a nearby tree. The next two hatchlings took their time departing, so we helped them off the wire grid onto some cone flowers.

25 Sunday’s hatchlings were also reluctant to leave.
