I see people using smilies that are not on the text editor's list so what emojis are available to use on site?

It depends if you're using the app or a web browser.

If you're in the app almost all the emojis in your keypad work (via iPhone, I can't speak to other platforms.) Although some of the new iOS emojis DON'T show, like the new barf and drool faces. Bummer. [emoji848]

If you're using a web browser only the MobiTog emojis work (they can be found inside the editing bar when you're typing a post.) If you're on the web and insert an emoji from your keypad, once you post your comment they just disappear... poof. [emoji15]

Also, if you insert MobiTog emojis via a web browser, then go into the app to view your post, for many of the emojis you won't see the actual emoji, just its *code*. For example (look at these inside the app): :coffee: :mobibabe: :feet: :zip:

Now go over to a web browser and you'll see the faces. [emoji1369]

[emoji15] So are emojis client or server side technology or more like fonts and both sides need to be able to support it? And why do your ios emojis work on my phone but I can't replicate them with the code [emoji1369]…? I'm not expecting an answer, just nerding out loud.

Ello ello!

rizole - you are spot on when you say both sides. The emojis you see in the selector on Mobitog, the ones which show up as code, are built in to the forum software that runs MobiTog. Traditionally forums were one of the first places to use emojis, long before the worldwide emoji committee got together and made the first keyboard sets you see on your iOS or Android device. So what you are actually seeing is a crossover between old (built into the forum software) and new (built in universally to your device software and across the internet - just like the web safe fonts). There will hopefully be a time soon where the forum software just shows the universal ones, which will be sad though, as at the moment we can add new ones if we wish!

Oh look at that. Although the emojis didn't display on my phone when I added the bbcode for them they are there now when I revisit the page in my browser.

I assume that means I can add any emoji I like if I know it's number.

Seems to me that if I want a reference for the emojis I can use here with BBcode I'll need to just write it out:
Hence:
[emoji35] emoji35
[emoji421] emoji421
[emoji89] emoji89
[emoji111] emoji111
[emoji152] emoji152

On the other hand if
an emoji reference here in the forum would be largely redundant.
In a spirit of creative anarchy I might just do emojis at random, see what comes up. [emoji666]
Especially considering the change I seem to be undergoing.

And I thought I made happy emojis, not the other way round. [emoji1000]
