So, the theme is a bit philosophical: anything colourful that brings good memories or good feelings. It can be past, present, future, related directly to you or to someone (no matter how many legs or what kind of skin coverage they have) important to you.

As an example, freckles! They’ve been a part of my life since I can remember and I cannot resist a good chocolate :D

Well, I’ve liked this, so I’ve clearly seen it, but I don’t think I realised that this was a thread. I will contemplate and come back with something.

Those Portuguese stones always make me think of... Portugal too, so it’s a double good memory :)

My (past) garden... (I’m still working on the feelings being good and not sad - it’s been 3 years since I moved, sheesh!! Come on already, Cat!) I poured lots of love into this tiny space (sanctuary), and have many memories here with my sweet Miss Missy.

No, don’t give yourself a hard time. We don’t always have to “get over” things. It’s quite right that this should be bitter sweet. I feel the same when I look at photos of our old garden. I think it’s easier to feel that you’ve lost something when you look at a garden if you’ve put your heart and soul into it and then had to leave it. It’s such a lovely space.

Wow, I can feel the heat from those stones (or maybe it’s the heat from outside today - 31° and sunny!). Look at that blue sky!

    :inlove::inlove::inlove:

I recently returned for the first time.... I thought about it over the years, hoping maybe the new tenants cared for it, even if it wasn’t the same. I couldn’t bring myself back though. But on my way back from Vermont recently my GPS took me literally past my old place, so I looked......

    :fearful:

My landlord had taken out the long beds across the ugly chain link fence that housed hydrangea, astilbe, honeysuckle, hibiscus, clematis, bleeding heart.... :coldsweat: He probably just threw them out. Don’t ask me why. The renters have nothing planted in the back patch of earth... just weeds coming up. I had a beautiful sage, rosemary and lavender in there, some Shasta daisies... either they died or someone pulled them out. They had a table and a couple chairs thrown haphazardly in one corner, and that was it.

I actually felt sort of okay about seeing it... didn’t cry.... felt a little like closure. My garden is in my heart and memories, and I’ll have another someday (okay, typing this here is bringing tears to my eyes.... what’s up with that?) xoxo

Well, I felt like crying when I read what they’d done (or hadn’t done) to your lovely garden!! Philistines!

On the set of Santaland Diaries with my good friend Harold Leaver aka “Crumpet.” There’s nothing quite like a bottle of Bad Elf Beer to set the tone.

I love David Sedaris. And I’ll take him reading over reading his books anyway. Santaland Diaries :lmao: :tearsofjoy: :lmao:

And the way he can integrate tragedy and grief into his OTT humour without (imo) cheapening any of it .

Grief can be the garden of compassion.
If you keep your heart open through everything,
your pain can become your greatest ally
in your life's search for love and wisdom.

Also what JillyG said: *!¥}! philistines !

Also what terse said: I’ve had so many cats come and go - heartbreak with every loss... I’ve always had one black cat plus various others. But one black cat at a time was just how it worked out. And after a while I derived some comfort from imagining that each black cat sent her/his successor to me when the time was right. And we talk to all our animal companions about their (departed) brothers and sisters. As long as we don’t do it in the wrong places :alien: no harm done, and it’s a great comfort to imagine a relationship, a continuum of cats & dogs passing through our lives. Makes it possible to keep saying goodbye, and then hello.
