Hello,

I enjoy taking photos, and have done so for many years using my phone, since it was so convenient... the photos are for me, they’re not taken for any purpose other than to elicit a memory... however, following recent comments in articles that describe the plethora of digital images that may be lost upon software becoming obsolete, or memory drives being lost etc, I have recently become more enamoured with the idea of ‘less is more’

For the first time in over a decade I actually had prints made... and it was great to see, feel and hold the photograph... to see a photograph, all one needs is the sun to rise. (Paraphrasing the article, B&W magazine April 2019) ... this began my journey towards taking photos that were more than mere snaps... create some great photos for potential printing.

I therefore decided to learn how to improve my photography and through following a few crumbs, and going down some rabbit holes, I came across this forum... what a great place... I look forward to our journey together.

I use IG as my main Social Media platform, I don’t have a FB account... IG is a personal journal, serves as inspiration and is nice to look back at my life’s journey whilst sitting in a waiting room I also use vero since it doesn’t compress photos.

If allowed, my IG profile is @thestevemacdonald

Riding motorcycles, camping, and generally living life as fully as possible are my joys.

Many thanks for getting through my ramblings, I never really know how to do these things

Have a great one,

Steve

Greetings, Steve, and welcome to MobiTog. (I'm @ratspeaker on Instagram.)

I just finished a spate of printing some mobile photos and digital art (up to A3/13x19), some for me and some for others, and yes, it's a new experience holding a print in your hands, turning it this way and that, and feeling the weight and surface of it. And I hadn't thought of it, but it does cause me to think of new photos somewhat differently.

Don't miss the weekly challenges to get an idea of what's going on here. This week's B/W Challenge is at

https://mobitog.com/threads/new-117-black-white-challenge.23704/

The weekly MobiColour challenge (which usually has a theme) is at

https://mobitog.com/threads/new-mc-162-theme-details-in-architecture-march-4-10-2019.23705/

These both end on Sunday morning, usually. And then there's the now-biweekly Appstract challenge at

https://mobitog.com/threads/weekly-appstract-8.23696/

I think that one's wrapping up today and then a new one will start. You're more than welcome to jump into any of these with your own images.

Sorry Steve, I didn’t see this when I mentioned a link in another thread. Welcome to Mobitog. Love the introduction. Usually we just get “Hello, I’m so-and-so and I’m interested in mobile photography”, but you’ve given us lots of info, so thank you for that. I feel I know you already. We’re delighted to have you here and I, for one, can’t wait to see your images everywhere on Mobitog.:D We’ve got several active members in Canada, so whereabouts in Canada do you call home now?

Welcome to MobiTog Steve! British Columbia is one of my favorite places... I’m looking forward to seeing your photos. I couldn’t agree more regarding holding printed images... a lovely friend printed some of mine for me and it’s so wonderful to touch and feel them.

So glad you joined us! You have most definitely come to the right place to meet new people, learn about mobile photography and hone your skills. Take a look around, maybe join a challenge or two, and feel free to ask us any questions - our MobiCommunity are a super friendly and helpful bunch of mobile photography addicts enthusiasts!! :D

Here's some information that might prove useful as you find your way around:

At the top right of the website you'll see a big question mark -->?<-- labeled Help - click on that any time and it will bring you to our detailed help section. You can also click this link: https://www.mobitog.com/index.php?help/

Visit our "How Do I..." forum, where you'll find all sorts of tips and tricks to help you find your way around more easily: How Do I...

The MobiTog Community is set out in four main areas or sections:

Community
Here we welcome everyone, post announcements and take in your suggestions and comments.

Image Sharing
Self-explanatory and broken down into sub-sections clearly named to make it easy to find a topic of your choice. It is here that you post your images.

Mobitography Discussion
For general conversations and discussions about all things mobile photography related.

Members Area
An exclusive MobiMembers-only section. Feel free to discuss things with other members - and find out about Top Secret stuff not for public consumption!

Important note: Please remember that only images originated on a mobile device (iOS or Android) can be posted to this community. No pictures created on a DSLR or compact camera are allowed.

Handy Tip: At the top of the site in the orange bar you'll see "New Posts", and clicking/tapping on it will take you to all the unread new posts that occurred since your last visit. Note: If there's just too many there to deal with, and you're really anal like me you can go up to the top and select "Mark Discussions Read" - and choose just a specific area to 'clear out', for example App Discussions, or choose all discussions which will clear everything and allow you to sort of 'start fresh'. That way the next time you go into New Posts, there will just be the most recent posts since you "erased" everything.

Also when you hover over your username in the very top right, you have an option to choose "Ignore New Posts", and select any forums/discussions that you DON'T want to show up.

We have lots of great challenges to help hone your skills and have loads of fun doing it, like JillyG Jilly's Black & White Challenge, and for the color-minded we have MobiColor, a fun group challenge Elements of Surprise (EOS), and a super interesting and fun challenge Time Stamp run by FundyBrian where everyone around the globe posts up an image on the same day and time. Check them out in our Competitions & Challenges forum!!

Lastly, if you have any questions on anything at all be sure to give us a shout out!

A belated welcome, Steve - since I’ve already enjoyed some of your images here. I’m @izenjenny on [my sporadic visits to] IG, I’ll be sure to find you. And I second Starzee ’s invitation to introduce your dogs - we’re very pet-friendly here :)
