Are you a Hipstamatic Wiz?

Wow, Hipstamatic can do that? This is a great place for discovery and to try new things and see what can be done and surprises that result. We love to see your attempts, whatever they might be. Ask a question and there’s always useful tips from the seasoned Hipstas that can take your images to the next level.

The Main Rule is simple:

1) The only apps that may be used in this Challenge are either an ordinary phone camera (i.e. with no effects) and Hipstamatic depending on what the winner decides.

The actual Hipstamatic Challenge will be decided by the winner...

The winner chooses 2 Hipstamatic Paks for the week. They can then decide on any restrictions but this is optional.

Last entries before midnight UK time on Saturday 23rd February 2019. Judging will take place on Sunday 24th February 2019 or soon thereafter.

CHALLENGE: Using the Shake to Randomize or Shuffle feature, take 2 images (one after the other) and see what Hipsta Magic happens.

This week‘s challenge is the magic I found in Hipstamatic and made it my to go app. Keeping always the original but also do a surprise that very often is magic and if not just randomise it from the original until you have your perfect fit.
So this week is use the shuffle all your gear (so no matter how many you have, you are also allowed to delete or download stuff you surely don’t like), not the favourites or combos, shuffle all and take TWO pictures after another. Let’s see how the twins differ and what unexpected combos we’ll find to add to our favourites gear. I’m really looking forward what crazy but beautiful surprises we’ll see.

Inside the Hipsta app select:
Photos/Settings/Capture then toggle Shake to Randomize

Nearly right. This you can have turned on, so you can extra shake, but I mean the easy way:

If it’s not turned on istead of the twisted arrows you see the three circles.

Examples from yesterday:

You see because of movement there is a slight difference in the pictures, but very alike. You can wait a second between the two shots or hurry. Important is that you can recall it’s (quite) the same shot.

Hmmmmm.... is this something different than Shake to Randomize? Does it just shuffle around your saved favorite combos, and then you choose one, or it chooses for you?

I’m confused how it works. (Wondering if this is the reason my alphabetized films/lenses are now out of order? )

I always have “shuffle everything” on. It randomizes each time you take a pic, without having to shake. (Though I had to shake when using the multi-exposure to get a random combo on the second exposure). I’ve not noticed any issue with the gear I put in a loose kinda order being out of place. You can set it to only shuffle favorites or to shuffle through everything you have “on”. Won’t shuffle through any of the lens/films you disabled.

Yes, the shuffle everything is the thing!

And ValeriGail, I didnt know that you can successfully shuffle within a double exposure or are you talking of editing? For this I always took the crossed arrows in the edit section.

And RoseCat It's not really obsolete, if the preview worked you could get a new combo without taking a picture.

I prefer Shake to Randomize as you can see the results in the viewfinder, and if you hate it just keep on shaking.

I've found that even if I have some films or lenses turned off they still show up in shuffle. I'm thinking that they might be buried in one of my saved combos and that's why they come up.

To be honest, I don’t care. If you feel more comfy to shuffle the same shot so may be it. I prefer to take two shots, cause sometimes (when things are moving, like people or birds bomb it …) one shot is better than the other.

Well as I have it in random all the time and save the original as well, I always have a square original just with the double take and another filtered with a random combo. So I think there is actually no need to shake really. And the preview never shows the real look, that’s why I switched this one off.

I’m not using the “preview”. I was referencing that you actually see the film change while in multi-exposure in the classic layout, when you shake. (In the film window on the left side). I can not verify that it is actually randomizing the second layer with a new combo (if you don’t shake) as the film changes after you take the photo, and the next photo taken is with that combo. It doesn’t randomize again until after you take another picture. This is why I started shaking during the multi feature. It’s the only time I use it. It’s also pretty much the only time I shoot in classic mode now.

As I clicked, it randomizes to a new combo, but the next photo (not multi cause I forgot to slide the slider) is using the combo that just flipped up

When using the multi, if you shake between the two layers, it randomizes again and your top layer is a different combo from your bottom. Only if you want a different combo, if you don’t... don’t shake.

Oh yeah... this is really cool.
Yes, Mabel is one I usually have toggled "Off". As well as all of the Christmas films/lenses. They certainly worked here though!
