Are you a Hipstamatic Wiz?

Wow, Hipstamatic can do that? This is a great place for discovery and to try new things and see what can be done and surprises that result. We love to see your attempts, whatever they might be. Ask a question and there’s always useful tips from the seasoned Hipstas that can take your images to the next level.

The Main Rule is simple:

1) The only apps that may be used in this Challenge are either an ordinary phone camera (i.e. with no effects) and Hipstamatic depending on what the winner decides.

The actual Hipstamatic Challenge will be decided by the winner...

The winner chooses 2 Hipstamatic Paks for the week. They can then decide on any restrictions but this is optional.

Last entries before midnight UK time on Saturday 2nd March 2019. Judging will take place on Sunday 3rd March 2019 or soon thereafter.

Please also see the general Mobitog Rules HERE

WINNER: JillyG

CHALLENGE: Hema lens, Delauney 1941 film and any flash (if you want to add one). And then Mabel lens, Abbot K20 film and any flash. No restrictions.

Say what? We’ve been out for the day and i’ve just noticed this! Oo-er. I’d better get thinking.

Right. I’m going to choose the Hema lens, Delauney 1941 film and any flash (if you want to add one). And then Mabel lens, Abbot K20 film and any flash. I chose these by going back to the previous challenge and picking the combos that I like best.:D I hope everyone has these. Let me know if not. And off we go again!

And to start us off, here’s the Mabel/Abbot K20 combo with Jolly Rainbow flash.

I’ve got the Delaunay 1941 film and that’s all, in spite of having 57 lenses and 60 films!

Edit: OK. Now I’ve bought the 3 packs necessary.

Another with the Mabel/Abbot combo and the Jolly Rainbow flash. Adding this particular flash removes the creamy haze and darkens the background.

Hema + Delaunay 1941 + Apollo flash.
This conveys a chilly winter feeling which seems quite appropriate.
I found very few successes with the two combos from 88 pictures made this afternoon outside in the snow. All the RAW source images look fine.
Mabel + Abbot K20 + Jolly Rainbow flash makes very unappealing yellow snow that is hard to eliminate. The best I got was a bit yellow in the bottom light snow and pink in the shadows.

Edit: I found it interesting that I could not make the Hipsta version look as good as the unedited RAW source image. And of course you know that an unedited RAW image is on the dull side. Even with the lens and film dialed down to zero and the flash removed there were still colour and tonal problems. It appears that the texture is used to add some white vignette so adding about 40 texture seemed to get closer to the original zero point, tonally, but at the expense of another red-green colour crossover. The recipe of the combo is somehow embedded in several of the settings even with the film and lens shut off. The tonality of the image was damaged beyond repair. I have gone around the house making several test photos trying to get a handle on what sort of scene it would work with. Certainly not a subject with medium light tones against a light background. The light medium tones are pushed up to match the light background so the tonal separation disappears.
