Yes, they can get in the way sometimes. They are reversed on my Samsung so when I'm editing in snapseed, the button you press to see the before/after edit state is right next to the Back action key. Times I've lost my edit and had to start again.Below the camera button are 3 action buttons, and when I’m concentrating on the shot I hit these by mistake and close the window! Also irritating
That 40mb thing is worrying
- Even though the resolution is set to 40Mb, the Photo option only seems to be taking 10Mb images so need to investigate that.
- The screen turns off with the camera open which doesn’t happen with the iPhone. Irritating. Another setting I need to check.

The biggest annoyance in the iPhone native camera app is that any accidental sideways swipe, even a slight sliding touch when you're setting focus, will switch camera modes so that, without realizing it, you're suddenly shooting video (or some other option). I've ruined any number of shots that way, and there's no way to lock the camera mode to keep it from happening. The action buttons are a common problem, how does this differ from iphone?

Yesssssssss..... I can't tell you how many videos I've shot in error. The biggest annoyance in the iPhone native camera app is that any accidental sideways swipe, even a slight sliding touch when you're setting focus, will switch camera modes so that, without realizing it, you're suddenly shooting video (or some other option). The 40Mb works in Pro mode so maybe that’s the way to go.That 40mb thing is worrying
I think there are apps that will force the camera to stay open, but usually the screen will turn off even with the camera open in android, IF its idle.
The action buttons are a common problem, how does this differ from iphone?
Glad you are enjoying it !
Thanks for this. Will have a read. Still feel like there’s a lot to get my head around.I'm sure you've already read a lot but here's some more !

It’s only happened to me occasionally. I haven’t found it an issue. The biggest annoyance in the iPhone native camera app is that any accidental sideways swipe, even a slight sliding touch when you're setting focus, will switch camera modes so that, without realizing it, you're suddenly shooting video (or some other option). from what I've read the consensus seems to be that its a 'photographers' phone i.e. its not designed for quick snaps on auto, you have to really get into the settings, which sounds great to me !Thanks for this. Will have a read. Still feel like there’s a lot to get my head around.
Well, that’s the impression I got when I first read about it but I’ve been quite impressed with the quick snaps that I have taken although now I realise they weren’t at max resolution. I mean the resolution on this is low but the detail impressive. I cropped and edited it in Snapseed.from what I've read the consensus seems to be that its a 'photographers' phone i.e. its not designed for quick snaps on auto, you have to really get into the settings, which sounds great to me !

Thanks, folks. I did get a couple of good ones on the iPhone too but it occasional blew out the whites of the swan.Wow, that IS impressive.![]()
Its a beauty, when you say low resolution, what do you actually mean? Photo size? Megapixels?Well, that’s the impression I got when I first read about it but I’ve been quite impressed with the quick snaps that I have taken although now I realise they weren’t at max resolution. Good question. Its a beauty, when you say low resolution, what do you actually mean? Photo size? Megapixels?
From what I read it has 40mp but its actually designed to output at 10mp![]()
I actually find this interesting for some reason. The Samsung's highest output is 4032x3024 which generally gives a file around 3mb give or take, but this varies depending on the lighting conditions, is that what happens, different scenes make the file size larger or smaller?Good question.
I think with the image above, it went into Portrait mode so the exif data on it says 3648x2736, 1.74Mb, which of course isn’t really low res. The exif viewers on the iPad all give different amountsbut my main one does say 1.7Mb. I cropped it significantly to 1897 x 2098, 965kb, only 3.9mp which I would normally consider low res but then it is closeup.
If you shoot in Pro mode the dimensions are 7296x5472, 15Mb, double the size. The white house above was shot with these dimensions. Now if you multiply 7296x5472 it is actually 39.92 MegaPixels. I have to say I often get mixed up with Megabytes and MegaPixels but it looks to me like it does save in 40mp in Photo mode (with Master AI off) and Pro mode but not in the other modes.
WOW. Probably, but...The Samsung's highest output is 4032x3024 which generally gives a file around 3mb give or take, but this varies depending on the lighting conditions, is that what happens, different scenes make the file size larger or smaller?
I'm officially confused
I guess I'd say low resolution would be a file below 1mb right?

Thanks, Jilly, I’ll watch it when Tom’s not watching the cricketI wonder if this video might be of interest to you Ann. It’s made by Rui Pinto, who also does iColorama tutorials (which is how I found it).

Certainly the amount of detail in a picture has an effect because of jpeg compression. So this pic is 3.65mb because there are large areas with little detail and the algorithm can average out portions and chuck away some of the data. Also some images will be more "compressable" than others...
