ImageArt’s Project 365 - 2022

Ripley is one of my favourite villages. My coffee shop of choice now only does takeaways although you can sit outside so it’s down the road to another good one which is still charming but where the coffee is not quite as good. I haven’t been here for quite a while so I was delighted to find that all the quaint shops and restaurants have had their windows decorated for Christmas by obviously a talented artist. What a fabulous idea!

I particularly like the Christmas village scene.

I particularly like the Christmas village scene.
It’s the one I saw first and I thought, wow, how cool is that! It even has London’s Big Ben. It seems such a shame that the windows have to be cleaned.

Here’s my favourite coffee shop with different window paintings. Pity the indoor seating is no longer. It was just so amazing that the whole village as done.

Here’s my favourite coffee shop
Since we’re doing lifestyle in the MCC, a question. My stereotype of the UK is of a nation of tea drinkers. Is it coffee in morning and tea in the afternoon? (Actually, I know this is a silly question. I realize there’s as much variation in coffee and tea habits in the UK as there is here. It’s just that i don’t think of coffee shops in Britain. Gotta be tea shops.)

Thur 6 Jan

Lots of heavy frost today and only just got myself to the chosen spot before it started to melt after a lot of faffing around and of course the sun went in as soon as I stepped out of the door. Ah well, a fun walk anyway.

All lovely frosted images, but I especially like the first, with the bridge in the background.

Wonderful transformation! I’m curious how you integrate with Procreate. Any good resources?
if you want a really good free course on Procreate, go to Teela’s free course: https://learn.every-tuesday.com/procreate-for-beginners/

It’s worth buying one of her brush sets to go with it.

I often do a line drawing of an image to bring back detail after detail is lost in VectorQ or other art apps. I then might take the line drawing into Inkwork to smooth it out or give it another look. I also do repair work in Procreate if part of a transformation doesn’t take my liking by painting over sections with a selected colour (which can be tricky). One thing you have to be careful with iColorama is that there is sometimes pixelation on the edges so I will repair this in Procreate and in some cases I have painted over the whole image bit by bit but it’s rather like colouring in and quite therapeutic although I don’t tend to do it often.

Here’s the manual tracing that I added to the above image which after blending gave the white lines - I did erase some parts which didn’t ‘fit’.

Here’s how you might smooth it out in Inkwork. Lots of options.

These are my favourite brushes, particularly the pencil brush which is last from bottom which I tend to use for most of my line drawings:

OMG! Thank you so much ImageArt for taking the time to respond. I will enroll in Teela’s course (what a beautiful website she has). I also found a few YouTube videos (thanks Starzee). More fun!

Not so many tea shops really...you often find them in the more touristy and bourgeois  areas I think. Lots of cafes that do a range of hot drinks and food though. Coffee shops became a thing on the high street and motorway service stations probably in the late 90's/early 00's (feel free to correct me someone, I'm going on hunches, not facts. )Now they're as common as McDonalds, Subway, Burger King and the the UK special, Greggs, where you can pick up the sausage roll to match your lifestyle choice. :D

I would say we are a nation of tea drinkers for sure and the old style butty cafe (mentioned by WOTANICUS on his 365) is where you would have had a good strong cup of tea (which we refer to as builders tea) in the ‘old days’. Then you would have the department stores which serve pots of tea which is what the older generations of Brits would have been brought up on at home when they were young. I still prefer a pot of tea when I go out and this is the way it is served at my golf club. This is how it used to be served at Nest, above, before it became takeaway due to covid. Not sure if they still serve in a pot if you sit outside - probably.

Having said that, coffee shops have sprung up since, as Riz says around the end of the 90’s/early 00’s and now I will tend to have coffee when I go out. Tea I will have at home as well as some coffee. I’m very picky about my coffee and hate Starbucks. Other coffee chain shops would be Costas and Neros but my favourites would be specialist one-off coffee shops not always easy to find. I guess the younger generation would have been brought up on coffee shops rather than the more canteen type cafes but it is also regional.

So do you think tea drinking is waning compared to 40-50 years ago?

I found stats that showed tea drinking down around 15-20% over the last 15 years but nothing further back than that. On the other hand it looks like tea and coffee are on a par with each other these days according to this site:

Can’t argue with the stats but I wonder if the cosmopolitan cities aren’t the reason for the decrease. When the ladies get together for a natter, there’s nothing like a good cuppa tea.

Sat 8 Jan

Now I forgot to number the previous day . Geez Ann, get with the programme!

Another new cafe/restaurant to try out but as I was only having coffee I was unceremoniously ushered to the cheap seats at the bar. And just as well I wasn’t eating judging by the cost of food!

Here was the interesting contraption on the bar next to me:

Sun 9 Jan

Up early today to take some stuff to the new apartment and I fancied having breakfast at my favourite, um, what did rizole called it, oh yes, bourgeois cafe.

Passed the Four Horseshoes which is not a bad little pub, certainly quaint. Thought I would run it through Fimo to see if I could get a look I liked. In the end I used FIMO V3 500T. However, looking at it again, it doesn’t really seem to have changed the look. Only the view. Really wanted something to make it more vintage.

You should come visit us (Americans.) I’m quite sure that Catherine, Ted, and I (don’t know about Star) have an artisanal coffee shop on every corner. (Also true for urban Australia. )
Small town…..we only have the four corners…convenience store, drug store, vacant store and auto parts. Coffee at the convenience store is drinkable but at the diners (one on each side of town) it’s terrible. We have to go to the next town over to Dunkin Donuts.

Mon 10 Jan

I’ve been struggling to get a time lapse of my amaryllis and the main flower, flowered overnight  when my iphone was off. Then my darling DH moved the flower because the back bud had hit the window not thinking that I didn’t want it moved. So I abandoned that time lapse. So here’s two of the images on Monday as it was starting to blossom. Interesting to see how much it changed in just 1hr 35min
