12th August - Chiltern Hills
A lovely day today walking the hills.

Sunflower ICM

Watched a webinar by Stephanie Johnson who is an ICM specialist and thought I'd have a go with plants instead of just landscape/woodland images. This was my first attempt at an ICM on one of the Sunflowers. The sun was quite strong when I took it, but in the image has made a very good background effect.
Will be interested in what people think about it - I like it, but I know it won't be to everyone's taste.

I like it. I think the ghostliness works well with the bright sunflower and the green background.

22nd August - Succulent Flower
I have been growing different types of succulents over the last couple of years but this one has never flowered until now. It started out as a long stem out of the plant them a head with several flowers appeared. The bees seem to like the pollen.

23rd August Tree Texture
Went for a walk along the edge of the woodland today and loved this texture on one of the older trees. The colours were very different to the other trees surrounding it.

24th August - Going Uphill!
Today was particularly breezy. Decided to go for a walk along the river at Barrow upon Soar. Part of the walk leads you across a bridge over the weir. Tried to take a long exposure picture on the iPhone as the water was looking like it was going uphill.

25th August Conveyor Belt
We visited some friend today who took us on a walk with the dogs along their area of the River Soar. Came across this old conveyor belt that is no longer used but was part of the quarry system for transporting the gravel from the quarry to the local transportation depot. Very weird to find in the middle of nowhere! Converted to Black and White as it gave it a better effect.

26th August - Sanga Sorba
Another new walk today - across some fields that have been left to their own devices and spotted this clump of Sanga Sorba - a plant I have in my garden, but this was the wild version. A very tall thin stem with brugandy red heads that sway in the breeze. Nothing else around it except grass.

27th August -Spinning Tree ICM
Back home again, so decided to try another ICM, this time turning the camera a full 360' to get this effect. Looks like some kind of time tunnel.

30th August - Sad Canal
Our local piece of the Grantham Canal has lost its support from the Canal and Waterways Trust who used to manage it. So now the canal is beginning to looking very sorry for itself. The water levels have been falling drastically, no one is doing anything about keeping the canalised tidy and there is becoming less and less wildlife on the canal. This image shows quite a few of this year's ducklings all gathered together, which looks great, but when this is the only decent patch of water for the moment, not sure how long they will stay before moving on.

31st August - Major Oak
Went for a visit to Sherwood Forest today. Haven't been there for years but if you go, you must visit the famous Major Oak. Thought to be almost 1000years old, the poor thing is being held up with struts as it has begun to fall down in parts, however it is still showing plenty of leaves so can't be too bad. Legend has it, that Robin Hood hid in it from the Sheriff of Nottingham's soldiers! A good story for the tourists.
