MobiWorkshop MW 1 - Close-up Photography

Here's something new (for FundyBrian and ImageArt and others): ShiftCam is now offering a "long range macro" lens with a focus distance of 10 cm and an equivalent focal length of 75mm. See

ShiftCam is the company that started out offering that sliding 6-lens package for dual camera iPhones. They now offer "pro" lenses that come as single units like Moment and Sandmarc: You slide out the six lens package and slide in the pro lens in its holder. I'd not heard of their pro lens line before, and there's not much written about them on the web, but there is one review that compares the ShiftCam tele to the Moment, Sandmarc, and Olloclip teles:

It's not a very thorough review, but it does appear to show that the ShiftCam tele can match Moment and Sandmarc.

EDIT: After some more digging, these specs from ShiftCam for magnification and distortion are less exciting:

I’m curious to know how to determine the effective focal length of various lens combinations. For instance, what is the effective focal length when you put the Moment 58 tele on the 2x lens, or the 1x lens for that matter. The way the lens stats are presented there isn’t anything to work with.

Thanks for digging this up.
It would take something really big to make me jump ship at this point. If only these different lens systems could be mixed and matched then we could pick the best of each. None of them follow the idea of “plays well with others”.

One thing I find encouraging is that now that there is another company making a tele close-up lens perhaps Moment will be more encouraged to do the same. Except I would hope for at least 100mm, not 75, and preferably 150.
