Nice image but I don't get the spring reference on this, is it a cultural thing? Is this when baseball season starts? Help out a thick brit please :(
It's "spring training" season for baseball, where teams get everyone back in shape, try out the rookies, sort out their lineups, and play practice games. It runs for some weeks before the official games start.

Yes, baseball is a spring sport. This is a picture of a high school baseball game. In the professional leagues, all the teams go to some warm clime, either Florida or Arizona, for two months of spring training.
