This brings up something interesting I had not known before. The 9/10 notation in gas prices is something we don’t see here in Canada. Since gas is sold here by the litre the price is always something a bit over a dollar and to simplify it is shown in cents. Such as 112.9 for one dollar and 12.9 cents. For quite a while the price of gas hovered around the dollar point - a little below or above (99.9 to 1.00.9) and this system was devised to avoid having to change all the pumps recording mechanisms each time the price changed above a dollar. We just have to imagine the missing decimal.
