I spend up to 90 mins a day commuting either on public transport or on my bike and podcasts are my main entertainment while I'm doing it.
I'm always on the lookout for new stuff and am interested in what you listen to.

For reference, I use podkicker (android only I think) as my podcast client.
I listen to:
Comedy: (adult content advisory on some of these)
  • Richard Herrings Leicester Square Theatre Podcast
  • Do the right thing
  • Comedians Comedian podcast
  • BBC Friday night comedy
  • Answer me this
Science:
  • This week in science
  • Tetrapod Zoology Podcast
Misc:
  • Analysis
  • Any Questions
  • Reply All
  • The digital Human
  • The guilty Feminist
  • Waking up with Sam Harris
  • The Allusionist
This isn't an exhuastive list as I don't have access to my main phone right now for reasons discussed elsewhere :p but I've been listening to most of these for sometime and I'd certainly recommend them.

I haven't listened to a lot of podcasts and some have disappeared off my list since changing phones. The ones on my current list are:
- Photography Podcast with Alain and Natalie Briot. (Series)
- Photography Marketing Masters - Nigel Merrick. (Series)
I'm also currently listening to a bunch of program material about meditation, mindfulness, etc. , but although this sounds like a podcast it is delivered in an app.
In general I find podcasts rather sleep-inducing as they lack the plot and character development of audiobooks.
They always sound interesting in the promotional texts but I seldom listen to the end.

I like to listen to something, music doesn't do the job for some reason, like an audiobook or podcast while working at some physical task. The other day I replaced the front disk brake rotors and pads on my car, which took about 3.5 hours since a couple of bolts were stuck and I did some cleaning and painting for rust protection, and the whole time I listened to an audiobook. Yesterday I started moving my winter firewood from where it was dumped on my driveway to stack it under cover in my carport. Relatively mindless work, like shovelling the driveway in winter, and listening keeps me going when boredom would otherwise have me leave off to go do something else for a while.

Along the same line I have subscribed to several newsletters on email that, although initially interesting, I now mostly delete without opening. There's just too much stuff for the amount of time I have.

Do you like/have you tried RadioLab? Some great stories, but soooo over-produced.
Thanks for the tips. I'll listen to the Allusionist just bcs it's such a clever title. And I could do with something to laught at -- I'll try one of your comedy podcasts.

This is a whole area on my iPhone that I have not explored much so I'm looking forward to reading more about it.
My daughter just told me about the Stingray mobile app. If you get TV from certain providers and Stingray music channels are in your package you can listen to those same channels on your phone for free. The only thing is that I very seldom listen to music in my iPhone. Maybe this will make a difference.
I've taken a new interest in apps featuring meditation and mindfulness but these aren't suitable for commuting if you are the driver. The content is similar to a podcast so maybe I can find similar material in a podcast.
Edit: yes there is tons of stuff in this category. I never thought to look for it there.

I've listened to two podcasts for about 8-9 years now. It's rare to find ones that keep it up that long. One is Coverville, a music podcast of cover songs. I believe it is nearing episode 1200.

The other is The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe. It keeps my interest because there are 4-5 hosts on the panel every week and there are recurring segments as well as discussion of current scientific topics. They even have a weekly quiz called Science or Fiction, where the panelists have to pick out the one story out of three that is fake.

It is soooo overproduced isn't it? It puts me off a bit which is a shame because they come up with some real gems occasionally.

Coverville has definitely piqued my interest

It's perfect for me while I'm driving, because I can concentrate on the road and tune out 30 seconds of a song and not miss much, like I do with spoken podcasts and audiobooks.

Found a podcast subscription backup file. I missed the following of my list of recommended.
  • Global Pillage
  • Intelligence Squared
  • International Waters *
  • More or Less
  • My Dad Wrote a Porno *
  • No such thing as a Fish
  • Pappy's Flatshare Slamdown *
  • The Infinite Monkey Cage
  • The political Party
Anything with an * next to it has adult content.

Can I recommend one?

The fabulously funny, If You're Happy and You Know It (IYHAYKI). Created by three up and coming comedians here in the UK, it's all about Depression and Anxiety, but it's seriously funny. They cover pretty much all aspects of mental health, but in a really down to earth, experience based way. Experience has told me that you don't have to suffer yourself to find it interesting, in fact it gives great insights for those who are not affected by the horrible conditions too.

I've managed to make that sound really bland, but seriously, it's really just three funny blokes having a chat in a group therapy session with tea and biscuits.

I enjoyed it. Here's another one in a similar vein. http://carlandchrispodcast.com/babysitting-trevor/

My recommend listens at the moment is
https://www.gimletmedia.com/heavyweight/
Personal stories, told by a man with a lot of warmth and humour.
http://neonpodcast.com
History explored through the medium of pop culture movies, usually of the sci-fi and fantasy genre.
http://www.earwolf.com/show/the-complete-woman
1950s based comedy about how to be a perfect woman. Funny, a bit off kilter and occasionally gets dark.

I’ve recently become aware of a podcast series presented by Sounds True called Insights at the Edge. I listen to them using the Podcast app on my iPhone. Each episode is about 1 hour & 10 minutes. Sounds True is largely focussed on meditation and spiritual growth, neuroscience, etc.. Tami Simon interviews a wide range of related experts and authors that helps broaden our understanding of these topics. Tami has a knack for asking very insightful questions.
Apparently there are about 500 episodes but I have only gone back to the beginning of 2017. Not every episode interests me but most of them do. Looking back at some of the titles I keep thinking, that was a good one, and another good one. And some I have gone back and listened again. While shovelling the driveway today I listened to 3 podcasts.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, although not as many as when my dog was alive and loved to hike with him every day. Many of these I just listen to periodically.

politics and news:
The Argunent
Can he do that?
The Daily
The Daily 202
The Inestigation
The Lawfare Podcast
Mueller she Wrote
Stay Tuned with Preet
Trump Inc
Trumpcast

For book, movie true crime inspiration:
Crime Writers On

Multi episode limited series - some I’m not yet done with:

The Assasination
Bagman
Cover Up
Dirty John
In the Dark
Slow Burn
S Town
Serial
Dr Death
30 for 30 - Bikram episodes
Over my Dead Body
Revisionist History

Has anyone listened to any of The Bright Sessions?
I was quite entranced by the idea. I think the plot/writing and acting is in equal parts really good and bloody awful. Probably aimed at a much younger audience. Interested to know what others think.

lkbside i recognise a couple in your series list. Serial 1 (like the rest of the western world) I thought was mostly fantastic and deserved its groundbreaking status. 2 I couldn’t get into and 3 I was interested but felt like it tailed off, a bit directionless. Maybe 1 was just a hard act to follow. Maybe that kind of series works best as a single focus investigative project.

S Town I stopped listening to after John (?) died - I’m a bit fragile o_O - but I hear the story ges really gripping from there. What did you think?

Dr Death was bloody disturbing! mainly because it’s not an uncommon [type of] story. How do these psychopaths manage to keep operating (no pun intended) ?? Especially in the hyper-surveillance-d and over-bureaucratised world of health practice. (Maybe I’ve answered my own question )

Jordan Peterson ? I just listened to his conversation with Bjorn Lomborg. And there are plans for one with Zizek this year

This is a short audio book of poetry by Atticus, not a podcast, but I thought to put it here because, where else?
Apparently Atticus is a poetry sensation on Instagram with 0ver 700k followers.

His new book, and audio book, The Dark Between Stars, poems, read by the author, 35 minutes long. I’m sure you will listen more than once.
