Recover photos from phone after SD card failure?

Hello, I have encountered an unpleasant event. My 64 gigabyte sd stick from my samsung phone has failed and all my photos are gone. The card is no longer readable on the phone. When I plug the card into my computer, it shows up as blank and asks me to format it.

After googling a bit, I realised that you need special software to recover photos. I even tried a few, but didn't achieve the desired result .......


Does anyone know how to help me?

Ouch! I don't have an answer for you, but it'll help if you can say what computer you have (Mac/Windows/Linux) and what software you've already tried.

I have a Windows system.

If you've tried those already I think I'd try booting up your pc with data recovery discs, often some flavour of Linux, with software that runs at a lower level on the hardware. Usually boots your pc off a CD or usb stick.

It's years since I've had a go with anything like that and I'm a bit out of touch but I'll check what I've got in my software toolkit and do some reading around the issue.

If you've not tried anything like that before it can be a bit of a technical steep hill to climb but you're unlikely to make the situation worse trying.

Actually, forget that, bootable media is for fixing broken operating systems, not data recovery as a rule. Sorry to muddy the water.

Now I've done a bit of re-reading I'd start with data recovery software, as you have done already. Recuva is well regarded for this I know but there ared many options out there.

If it was me, I'd work though this list first:

If that doesn't work then I'd start trying software that recovers disk partitions. That doesn't recover data directly but can make data readable again, either by windows or by data recovery software. The fact windows is offering to format the disk suggests there maybe some underlying structure already that can be worked with.

As I said, it's years since I've done this sort of thing but I've had positive results with both kinds of approach.

I'm not convinced specialist image or photo recovery is any better than general recovery software, after all it's just 1's and 0's, but technology moves on so I could be wrong about that.
