Magenta on green
Snapseed

It’s interesting to compare the fresher flowers, for instance the one on the lower left, with the others looking more tired. The freshly opened flowers are more magenta and the lines on the petals seem more magenta leading to the yellow stamen in the centre. The more mature flowers seem more bluish at the outer edge and the lines are darker. You can think of those lines on the petals as runway markers for landing insects, directing them towards the yellow pollen on the stamen. It really makes me wonder how it looks to an insect since they have vision extending farther into ultraviolet than humans.

Just this morning from my window. Pregnant body halfway out the window to try to get as much as possible. Worth it :)

Looking at the spectrum of colours in the rainbow it seems the warm colours occupy quite a large proportion and green quite narrow, yet the human eye is almost twice as sensitive to green than any other colour.

After googling a bit, I think they're Echium Candicans (AKA Pride of Madeira). They seem to be a favorite to plant along the seaside, and they grow around 6 ft. tall. (JillyG, one Google source says they grow in the UK, too.)
Yes, it’s half hardy here, so it would have to be brought in over winter.
