My Goodness! December already!
Join the elite Time Stamp team for Saturday, 2pm, adventures!

Overview: Participants are invited to make pictures for the Time Stamp project. There is no theme this round. Photograph whatever is happening, or make something happen. However, the catch is that your picture(s) must be made at 2:00pm, your local time, on Saturday afternoon. Post your pictures (up to 3) on this thread. Sit back and await fame and recognition, and maybe a spiffy new virtual award.

If you're new to the Time Stamp idea here's the overview: here at MobiTog we have participants all over the world, in many different time zones. What if everyone made a picture at 2pm on Saturday, of whatever is going on, wherever they happen to be, and share that picture on Time Stamp. We should end up with a global snapshot of what is going on everywhere at 2 pm. This could be ordinary, humorous, puzzling, but it is bound to be interesting. The Time Stamp title comes from the metadata that is added to every new photo at the time it is shot, the creation date and time.

Rules: Please see the Rules and Guidelines for MobiChallenges posted HERE

• Standard Mobitog image rules apply. Images must be captured/created & edited entirely on a mobile device such as a mobile phone or tablet.

• All images must be photographed and edited between 2:00pm to 2:20pm, local time. Any editing must be done within that time frame. In other words, don't rely on extensive image manipulation or compositing. These things are allowed, but must be accomplished within the 20 minute window of opportunity. Better to concentrate on capturing a unique moment at 2pm.

Secret tip: This isn't strictly a photo contest. Good reportage or storytelling can get you lots of bonus points. Helping other people discover some place near you is another way to get bonus points. Make a connection.

• In addition to the regular (up to) 3 images, you are now allowed to post one additional image, if you want to, to help "set the scene". This image should be described as "to set the scene" or "setting the scene", or "the location" or something similar, to clearly identify it because it won't be counted as part of your submission of 3 photos.

• You are free to photograph something actually happening, or nothing happening, or make something happen, or to create your own image from scratch, as long as it and any added parts or layers are photographed within the 2:00 to 2:20pm window of opportunity.

NEW! Time Shift Exemption: This applies to special events happening 2 or 3 hours outside the usual Time Stamp window. If you think the event is significant enough and that others would like to see it you can claim the Time Shift Exemption and move your 2pm to fit the event. This is a test to see how it works.

Post your images to this thread.

Closing date: entries must be posted no later than 2pm the following day (Sunday). You can post your images right away after making them but if you happen to be in a situation where this is not possible, you have 24 hours.

• Have some creative fun!

Any questions? Let's try to get them sorted out before the big day.

• There will be an overview, or Wrap-up, after each event to discuss any observations of things of special interest.

NEW: Each week the person making the next Wrap-up will be selected by the current Wrapper-Upper.

• AWARDS! There will be some new virtual awards spontaneously made up as the occasions arise. The award recipient will gain the privilege of wearing (flaunting), for one week, the virtual hat/cape/glasses/etc. associated with that award. Topics might be photojournalism, humour, documentary, brilliant observation, street photography, decisive moment, that was unexpected!, quick thinking under duress, inspired making of instant art, doing the best you can in a boring situation, etc. I will present the awards but participants may nominate other participants for awards of merit and even invent new awards as they see fit.

• Imagine being able to wear the Glowing Crown of Omnipotence for a whole week, where your every opinion expressed must accepted and acknowledged as undeniable truth.

Time Stamp is hereby declared an acronym-free zone.

Tips on setting alarms: you can use the Calendar app to set 2 alerts. I like to set the first alert 1 hour ahead in case I have completely forgotten (where's my phone!)(my battery is dead). The second alert I set 15 minutes ahead so I can get ready. You can create a second event at the same time for more alerts! Maybe set your alarm clock to go off right at 2pm to make you jump. Set another alarm to let you know when your time is up.

If you would like to join in the fun, just post a message below saying "I'm in!"

I’m experimenting with the aspect ratio of this photo to match the shape that displays in the lists on screen. From now on I’ll be composing for the aspect ratio that shows. Before I always found important parts were cropped off.

Not much to offer this week, I’m afraid. At home and it’s cold outside. I’m sitting watching some telly so took some photos of our spectacle holders, Pengi and Percy. :D

I thought of you today Ann and even I was missing Hong Kong and I’ve never been. There’s something about these grey damp English winter days that makes one long for anywhere more interesting - even if it’s a cold place. I love the spectacle holders.

Christmas is definitely on the way - the start for us is the Oundle Christmas market. It was much bigger this year, but most of the stalls were food and drink stalls (I’m not complaining). Many more people at the market than there was last year. Unfortunately, Northamptonshire Council decided it would be a good time to close a major road and divert everything through Oundle. Well, you can imagine the chaos, especially if you bear in mind that Market Place was closed to traffic!

Anyway, here’s a glimpse.

All aboard the Fun Bus!

Oh, I forgot to invoke the Time Shift Exemption - these were taken between 1pm and 1.30pm.

I'm home... In between events today. Went downtown Saint Petersburg this morning for the Santa Parade. Tonight, we plant to go to Sunset and a lighted boat parade at Pass a Grille Beach. My DH went up on the attic and pulled out our Christmas decorations, here are some of them.

Yum. Nothing like a prosecco cocktail to warm you up on a d & d day.

What island are you on? Several months ago we finished binge watching "Shetland" which I'm sure gives a Hollywood's eye view (or the equivalent UK terminology) of Scottish isle living, but it was fun for us to watch.

At 2 we were, as usual, at home. I'm going to invoke the Time Shift exemption, as earlier in the day we were at a nearby old mill building that has been converted primarily to artists and artisans studios and which has an annual holiday open house.
Not only are there some nice wares, but it gives me an opportunity to get photos of the building interior. (You know, old stuff.)

I'm actually surprised to see so many people posting today. Fabi & I both started the day with our iPhones shutting down every 3 minutes, synchronized no less! Battery running down fast, phone getting hot. Time to shut them both down because I recognized something widespread was afoot. When we got to town and asked at the "Apple Premium Reseller" (this is what you have in areas too small to warrant a real Apple Store) if they knew what was causing it they knew immediately and told us several people had come in today with the same problem. He said there was a problem with the latest update and the only solution is to restore from a previous backup. In the meantime Apple shut down their servers to contain the problem while they worked on a solution and new update.
So, I am without my iPhone for a while until it gets sorted out.
I got out the old iPad, which was not affected since it still runs an old iOS, I brought it to town with me just in case.
I walked out behind the grocery store for my 2pm photos. There's a public walking trail between the store and the river & marshland. What used to be considered waste land turned into public recreation area.
IMG_5700.JPG

Just off the trail the marsh grasses started, all in muted fall colours.
IMG_5690.JPG

Each different type of grass had its own sun-bleached colours.
IMG_5712.JPG

I enjoyed the edges of each different grass zone.
All native camera with minor tweaks in the Photos app.

I had trouble getting my iPad to focus where I wanted. I would tap on an element and see the square appear on screen where I tapped but fully 2/3 of my photos were focused too far back. All my favourite ones, in fact. Even so I was reminded how lovely it is to photograph with such a large screen. Good thing it was a dark day so I could actually see the screen. Meanwhile, suffering iPhone withdrawal symptoms.
