Well, when you build on cliffs by the ocean, you're relatively safe from flooding, but this happens. The street is West Cliff Drive, which runs from the north edge of Santa Cruz to the Boardwalk (where it turns into East Cliff Drive), maybe 5 miles or so. There are 4 or 5 places in this same stretch where the sidewalk and part of the road have been undercut and are collapsing. It's been happening all along -- the big storms just hurried it past the, er, tipping point.
We bought this years first ”plant babies” yesterday. Petunias. We keep them in our house until the temp admits them to move out in the greenhouse and when summer comes we’ll have huge petunias out on the porch.
