A friend's Facebook post of a Hipsta image she made in 2011, when the iPhone and mobile photography were just getting started and we were all experimenting like mad, got me thinking of doing a fun retro thread here.

Back then (only 5 years ago for me but it feels like 10 at least!) it was so new and exciting. I sometimes look back on those early works of mine and think either "Wow, you were so much more experimental then!" or "Egads what were you thinking?? Did you really need to app that sucker to death?!?" [emoji23]

So here's one from 2011 made with my 3GS - according to Flickr I used Hipstamatic and decim8, but I'm sure I must have used Diptic as well, and an app to make the word but the name of it alludes me.

So show us your throwbacks!! The ones you love and the ones you love to hate... [emoji1] Please include the year you made it, the device used and the apps (if you can remember!)

I couldn't find the specific throwback I was looking for at such short notice, but here is a topical iMage from December 25th, 2009, taken with my trusty 3GS... :D

And the Exif - for the doubters... :lmao:

Wow!!! I love this Rog! Great colors and graphic shapes. Impressive! I'm pretty sure I don't have anything earlier than maybe 2010.... which is around when I discovered the camera in my iPhone (2010-2011). Before then it was all about the games... [emoji849]

And hey! I have that same cutting board. [emoji1360]

The first mobile I actually used as a camera proper was in 2010, a Samsung Tocco Lite. 3inch screen and a 3.2 mp camera. Not sure I did much editing then, but if I did I never filed the mobile edits separate from the various p&s cameras I owned. So here's 3 straight from the camera.

Hmmm. I'll have to check the archives.
Be careful. That's what I did and ended up posting a photo of sinnerjohn's that I'd picked up from the Wrecking Yard to work on way back. It looked so familiar I would have sworn I remembered taking it. :lmao: Now I need to go clean up my archive to make sure I don't do it again.

Sorry, John.

(On the other hand, I steal from the best.)

IPhone 4 and Snapseed.
Edit: 2011

You're hilarious... [emoji849]
This is a fab composition! I like the grungy look... Its the filter set I used to use all the time in Snapseed - the "apped style" I was referring to in my opening post... I was big on lots of vignette and Grunge too (I'll find some more to post.)
I guess we could call it the Grunge Period in the history of the mobile movement. [emoji1]

HAHA!!!!! That's something I would do!!! [emoji1360][emoji100][emoji23] I've done that with stories that have been passed down of things other people did... The story becomes so vivid in my *memory* I start to believe I was there.

Another from 2011. I really liked it at the time... but now I shudder looking at this. :barf: I think it's safe to say it's a hot mess. LOL!!

According to Flickr this was made with my iPhone 4? So now I'm wondering about my first post here that I thought was the 3GS. The only app I tagged was Photoforge, but I'm thinking I must have used others too.

A challenge I entered for FX Photo Studio which ended up in a digital art display in New York... I was so tickled!! Not sure if I have the original... would have to dig ... there was a major hard drive/user failure in the interim. Apparently taken at night... probably my first iPhone? Edited with my first photo editing app... I believe it was called "Ski Lift at Night" when I submitted it ... and MAY BE the reason I found MobiTog????

Nice image Dee! I love seeing how our styles/apps have changed. And I'm guessing this was before you moved to Florida?

I was in that show too!!! [emoji1] I was there handing out MobiTog cards! Did you go?

I can't remember for the life of me how I found MobiTog...

My first i-photos were on an iPod touch 2, which didn't have a camera. They were images made in an app called Artisan. Later when I got an iPod Touch 4 it actually had a camera! I'm having trouble determining the exact dates because bunches of photos (200+ in a group) all have the same date probably reflecting the import date or backup date.
Edit: I got the iPod touch 2 in late 2008. Pictures probably mid 2009.
I got my iPod touch 4 in Dec 2010.
Here's one of the Artisan photos.

This is so much fun, looking back and reminiscing... [emoji1]

I still really like this weird one called "Smogulous Smoke"... it was one of those "Hey, what does this button do?" I used PictureShow (was a fave app then) and Pixlromatic (the predecessor to Pixlr), iPhone 4

It really is rather stunning to see the quantum leap in image quality is so few years. Even back at the beginning there were editing apps that allowed us to do things we couldn't do with a regular camera. Advances in regular cameras have been much slower. Speed, processor power, memory space, advances in the iOS, camera improvements. All quite quickly. Amazing advances in apps

Thanks and yes, Winter in Wisconsin... (We have to go up there in a few weeks for my granddaughter's Quinceañera.) And no, I couldn't go to the show... Wish I would've.

It wasn't just mobile, there was a textured movement, probably still is. Some (not so great) examples are on Flickr, not mobile, but if you want to look they have that same grungy textured to death look.
