I have copied this here from TS137 for anyone who didn’t see it first time around.

Time Stamp has always been about developing your ability to come up with good photos on the spot, or on demand, even when it seems there is nothing around to work with, and even if you don’t feel the least bit inspired. To discover the extraordinary among the ordinary. This is the skill of a photojournalist. Too often people only make photos when they feel inspired or when the weather is nice. Time Stamp is a Challenge, after all. It is about learning and personal growth. Sharpening your powers of observation and then igniting creativity to create something out of nothing. It is also the ability to make a good photo that can stand on it’s own without relying on a bunch of editing to prop it up. Time Stamp is also about sharing how you feel about the situations/subjects you discover.
    —————————————————————————

It occurs to me that Time Stamp needs a shake-up of some sort and I would appreciate your thoughts on what we can do next to provide more excitement, challenge, or whatever is required to draw some more participation. I think one thing will be to rewrite the introduction to clarify the focus.
Is it more editing time outside of the 20 minute window?
    Is it more education?
Is it more discussion about how to make magic out of nothing?
    Is it free beer?
Perhaps people don’t want to be burdened with the task of doing the wrap-up?

Please put some thought into it and enter into a discussion about Time Stamp - Phase 3.

I would suggest creating a new thread here in the Challenges Forum to post these questions. That way it can be a dedicated thread for the conversation.

But please link to it here or I will never find it!
I only take pictures on TimeStamp days, so it is already a big challenge and prompt for me.
Writing the wrap up to match the detail and length that previous people have written is too big a task for me. However, I think some form of wrap up and acknowledgement of people’s efforts is still needed.
One suggestion would be for people to keep track of their number of weeks participated in a row. It might be fun to post your “streak” as part of your post. Ie. “this is my seven week streak in TimeStamp!” This would be motivating for some people. I think we’d all have to start counting from zero on a designated start week, or some people would already be 138 weeks ahead of others.

I’m all for either (1) Eliminating the wrap-up or (2) Getting a volunteer who will do the weekly wrap up indefinitely or for a specific period of time. I believe ImageArt Ann is of this mind as well.

When people say we should eliminate the wrap-up do you mean we should continue picking a favourite photo and assigning that person to pick for next week. In other words can the long recap and just pick a favourite?
Of skip the whole thing. No recap and no favourite and no one to pick a favourite for next week?

I think we tried to cut back on the write-up at one time but it crept back again. Once you start writing one tends to get carried away.

I would like to see a bit of explanation why a certain photo was picked as their favourite. I always enjoy hearing another person’s perspective on an image.

I’d say skip the whole thing. For me, even though I’ve really enjoyed reading the wrap ups, the heart of TS is seeing where people are and what they’re doing at 2:00pm, and all the great conversations and segues that arise. I don’t feel that this challenge (but really, to me it’s an event, not a challenge) needs a *winner*, or a wrap up.

If there’s no “winner” then no one would feel any pressure to write a wrap up. During the course of the conversations that arise we can always ask “What was your favorite image?” I just don’t see this as a contest needing a winner. It’s a *happening*.

Something golden bright and hoppy and not a big fan of malty beers. I find you either like hops or malt, tis the way of life.

We could all do our own write up, each pick a favorite pic or two and say what we like about it. It could be optional and as in depth or simple as one is in the mood to write.

I found I got a lot out of doing the wrap-ups in that I spent a lot more time examining each image. In the process I noticed many things I would not have seen in a more casual viewing. In the big picture there is more to be learned by evaluating photos than there is in judging them.

Which is why I suggested someone who would agree to do it every week. It can be quite a chore for some, and might deter people from joining the event if they thought they might get *chosen*.

Perhaps you would want to take hold of those reins again? :sneaky:

    1. Sadly, but just one of those things — I work most Saturdays and my breaks are not fixed.
    2. I like things to be ‘wrapped up’ in one form or another. For me, like any kind of moment or event or process, the ending is as significant as the beginning and the middle-ing.
    3. I’d be willing to help out on a regular basis

I think I’m like you in liking to see things wrapped-up at the end. I sometimes imagine Time Stamp as a live performance with several acts being performed at the same time. Then I want to step back and see how they all fit together.
I always enjoy your participation and comments when you are able. Maybe you would like to do some wrapping-up?

I think we should all say more about particular aspects of the images. When there’s a wrap-up we may tend to sit back and wait for the Wrapper-upper to look after it.
Some people are very good at making encouraging and inciteful comments about several images. I find I have to work at it and study the images for a while before anything comes up.

I liked it well enough but I got some friction at home for how much time I spent doing it. Now and then is OK, not not on a regular basis.

GroovyGouvy Are you watching this thread? Looks like you will be the last Grand Wrapper-Upper for a while. Feel free to do it however you see fit and talk about your favourite images if you want to. But there’s no need to select the next Wrapper-Upper. We’ll take a break from that and see how it goes. If there’s a flood of new participants that will be the signal that it’s the right direction for Time Stamp to go.

    See, now I’m a little confused... o_O

I appreciate I have only been a rare participant in Time Stamp but, seriously, I have always understood Time Stamp to be about each of us, who take part, sharing a little part of something of our own world, at a partciular time of day (1400hrs ish local to each of us in our own TZ’s), with fellow MobiMembers...

Whilst dutifully trying not to step on anyone’s toes, or be in the least bit controversial, I have never really looked on Time Stamp as a Challenge, in any sense of the word. So, whenever I have partook, I have simply taken and shared, without editing, a couple of iMages from where I was, or what I may have been up to, at the particular witching hour in my own little world... :rog:

Perhaps, if Time Stamp was to revert to those original roots, with the simple idea of showing our MobiFriends some small parts of our own slice of this tiny planet, at a similar time of day to others but in our own Time Zones, it might just encourage a little more Time Stamping participation... :D

Just my two little pennies worth to add to the already wide ranging contributions so shoot me down with a feather if you fancy... :notworthy:

I have to agree with Venomator 's sentiments. I've probably only posted a couple of times in Timestamp as it's seems to be more of a masterclass in essay writing than photo sharing.

BUT to be honest Saturday afternoon for me is usually pretty uninteresting. You can only show the inside of a supermarket so many times
