Tiny House Fest

I'm in Brattleboro, Vermont for the Tiny House Fest tomorrow. To say I’m excited is an understatement... And what better way to experience it than to stay in a tiny house!! WHEEEEE!!!!!

I could TOTALLY live here...there’s plenty of room! I knew I could live in a tiny house but it’s nice to experience one and have it validated.

You hooked up for all services ‘n amenities ‘n things there Cat?...

Or does it come with communal bathroom facilites ‘n stuff?...

 

First time I’ve been called “clutter”...

 

It’s fully loaded... toilet & shower, propane stove/oven, A/C & heat. It’s awesome! (Except for the lack of tea/coffee mugs and decent looking pots and pans... But I was told I’m the first renter in it since the owners bought a new one to live in... maybe I’ll make a suggestion )

 

I have a rule that if I haven’t looked at/touched/thought about an object in 6-12 months, out it goes. You’ll never miss it, and stuff is always replaceable.

 

I was a little disappointed that most of the tiny houses were not fully finished, most were just shells. But I do know that I can easily live in a 20’ long tiny house, but will most likely get a 22’ or 24’, just cuz.

This one was a work of art... impeccable craftsmanship that you don’t often see. The guy who made it did everything by hand, including forging the metal parts. This beauty is definitely on the small side, but it has everything you need.

I’m also flirting with the idea of a tricked out van... that way you don’t need a truck to pull the house. This would probably be a precursor to a THOW though....

There were several vans and mini buses there... soooo cool. The owners all had basically sold their homes, got rid of everything and live full-time in their van or bus.

This is an amazing little pop-up shop. She bought the trailer for $200 and then fixed it up. This was one of my favorites (I wonder if a Mini could tow this?? )

 

The first time I began to get a sense of how little I really needed to live was when I went backcountry camping. As in, packing everything in a back pack and hiking to my site. As soon as you have to carry everything on your back and still be able to hike up and down hills you make reevaluations about how much you need certain items. It is quite liberating to camp with minimal stuff for a few days. That being said, I’ve got lots of stuff stored just in case I need it sometime. Especially metal, parts, hardware, & tools. And sure enough, sometimes I do need something I have stashed away.. Most of the time, though, it ends up being an albatross around my neck.
