A Horror story?
No it’s quite benign. A bit like Pinocchio without the ensuing drama. The maker longs for family - hence the more human-ish woman and child in his dream. But he has only the limbs and torsos of mannequins to make them . . . So he inhabits a closed world.
At first I thought of the woman and child mannequins visiting their maker. To me they seem more alive than he does. But I prefer to leave them as his imagining of them - dolls made more human by his desire.
