ZJ 52@Hipsta

Hipstamatic styles itself on the photography of the analog/film age when, believe it or not, cameras took some mastering. The difference between then and now is that then you had to shoot a whole roll of film and wait for it to be processed before you realised you'd blundered big time. At least with Hipsta you can see any problems instantly. Just relax, take your time, play around and make lots of mistakes - and if I'm 'elite' at anything, I'm very good at that. :D ;)

at professional level, film photography was under control since the 50's ... but ok, I don't want to derail this thread ;)

My (sortof) backyard: Indian Ocean

I am blessed to see miles & miles of this beautiful ocean just about every day of my life. I'm not sure any of these random Hipsta combos do it justice . . . Today was a very bright day - took these at midday. (For English people who think Brighton is a 'beach', that white stuff on the edge of the water is 'sand' :D)

Lovely.... And how lucky to live near water!

Nice!!! I love the first image!

Thank you Lisa :notworthy: :) The first was my husband's pick. I'm still shakin' that randomiser thingie on Hipsta! So I'm a bit sad. It to have captured the (truly) brilliant deep seablue of the sea on this bright hot day. But as I get more confident with Hipsta I'll get better shots... That sea ain't goin nowhere :)

Blessed, yes - and I'm one of those people who feel the need to live on edges - I hate big land masses. So every day as I just drive those kilometres with the Indian Ocean so close I can hear it I do remember that many people never see beauty like this, let alone get to look at it for hours each day.

Btw I live in a very working class suburb, in a very tumbledown old house. Further north along the coast you start seeing the $multi-million mansion'd suburbs. I'm prob 5-7 mins drive from the water, but in a more industrial area. 10 years from now my suburb will get taken up by the forces of 'gentrification'. Then I'll move further south again!

But,Rogerampersand, what do you think about the image? Do you approve? Rools of three yada, lines of whatsit, golden triangle blah blah? Hipsta film changed in btwn shots? General air of competence? o_O

If you don't want the randomize on you have to go to system prefs (settings) and scroll down the apps to Hipstamatic and tap on it.
You should get:
image.jpg

As you see there is a toggle for the Randomize.
Here you can also disable the auto-save to Cameraroll if you don't want it. Photos are always in-app and can be used there for setting the lens, film and flash.
The prescision viewfinder means that it is more accurate for showing the image. If it's turned off it is a bit less accurate sometimes, that also seems to be randomized to some degree.
In Hipstamatic app you can double tap on the preview and it will enlarge to fit the device, and once enlarged tapping anywhere will take a picture, but this does help especially for close focusing.
The save setting will let you have all the images put into an album which I like.
Shutter can also be used with the volume switch instead of the screen.

Once you find combos you like you can create a favourite and this is where I use different cases. For landscape I use their green case (if you get the CasePak in the store) red for sunsets etc.

Getting back to images in Hipstamatic if you tap on an image it shows what lens, film, flash were used if you tap on the text you are given the option of matching, ie if you match it sets everything for you, or you can make a favourite from it (if it is already a favourite it will let you delete it. If you do have favourites if you tap the star and again long press on the name you can delete it or rename it if you like.

Sure!:D Weather might drive you nuts, supposed to be +3 Saturday and by we'd back in the -20’s. Only water we have here is the frozen kind (outside) but we could take you ice fishing :) I prefer fishing in summer, I can think of better things to do then sit out on the ice freezing my butt off :) my one son goes ice fishing with his GF's father but they are really slumming it, they have an ice shelter (heavier duty tent) propane heat, gas auger for making holes through the ice, fish finders etc, about the only thing they don't have is tv, oh wait, they do, my son has netflick and he can get it on his iPhone or on his iPad :)

PS the Hipsta borders are missing bcs (as you prob guessed ) I had to straighten the horizon .
Sometimes I too crop the borders off, most of the time because I don't like some of them or as you mention to level the image...

Are you aware that you can reorder the films and lenses? So you can put the most common ones first or if you want a specific order for some reason.

Great images, Jen. As I sit here typing this with fingers numb from the cold I'm not at all jealous of where you live...no not at all...really...

I mentioned that you can reorder Lens, Films and Flashes.
Flip to the front, ie where you can select the Lens, Film or Case
Tap on the Case icon. Once the screen changes in the upper right there should be Edit Camera, tap on it.
Along the bottom is the selection for Lens, Film and Case
Enable or disable an item by using the +/-
Reorder by dragging on the three bar icon. There is a choice for 'Shake' which is another way to turn off randomize for a specific Lens, Film or Flash.
