Lzed travels

Really enjoying your travel pics and stories Larry, your sunset shots are wonderful. Hope your hand is healing......superglue? Yikes
Sunsets have been nice a couple nights but last couple days and evenings have been hot (this afternoon it was +34) and no clouds at all. We are going to visit mom in the morning then head back to Calgary. Karen has a doctors appointment at home on the 23rd and my son and I have a concert to go to on the 21st (Eric Burden from the group the Animals). Supposed the be really warm everywhere until next Monday so will see how the drive goes. May stay in Revelstoke overnight as it's about half way to Calgary and if I can get away really early we might miss most of the hottest parts of the day. Will see what time we get away.

The cut is actually healing quite fast. Deepest part of the cut still hurts if I grab something wrong or press on it but the rest is good. Up here a lot of er's and clinics use superglue, it's fast and holds good. I had no pain at all when I put it or, I thought it might sting but didn't or maybe my mind was on the pain from the cut itself and didn't register when I did the glue. The superglue on the surface came off within a couple days. I was back working on they table within a few minutes of putting the glue on. Did have a couple places where it cracked the glue a seeped a little but worked really good. And another bit of glue stopped the seeping.

The picture of the river is awesome.
For the past four years we have been camping along side this river. The provincial camp site is pretty basic with no services outside of bathrooms but it costs us $6.00 a night so I can't complain. If need be I can run the generator until 10pm. Will check, I have lots of pictures taken with the iPhone from when we were there.

I am really happy with vividHDR it has been great to have it along for this trip and I use it probably more then any other. I thought I might use Oggl more but if anything I use it less and less all the time. I prefer Hipstamatic still over it.

superglue was first used as a dressing after surgery in the the mouth. It was created by a dentist in the U.S. Army. Not that it matters, but his name was Surindar Bhashkar. He was a periodontist( gum specialist) who became Surgeon General. That's head US. Doctor.

Real short visit with Karen's adopted mom... She was really confused and sick this afternoon. The therapist was over this morning for physio and another this afternoon so they are working her pretty hard. Not sure when we head back yet....

On the way back to the RV Park I took some pictures of the Red Bridge

This is the Similkameen River looking to the west. I had pulled off the highway. vividHDR continues to delight me, most other apps would have given me a much poorer result

The Red Bridge from the same spot. This was done with KitCam and was zoomed a fair bit.

From here the road continues away from the river and around a bend where it gets closer again. There is a pull off rest area but the side along the river is all fenced and there is enough trees that you can't see the bridge so we drove farther down and onto a side road that goes over the bridge. I thought it was a walking bridge but it's not, it's a traffic bridge but only one lane. Didn't see any weight limits so drove over it, this is the sign bust before the bridge..

We found a road where I could turn the motorhome around and took this with vividHDR

We stopped part way over the bridge, pretty quiet and nobody coming behind us or from the other side of the bridge.

Funny in what some people call a covered bridge. I expected that it would be covered with a roof but no :) The structure is covered but the road is open... At least I can say that I have seen it and driven over it....
Beautiful. Perfect views and good photography :)

I am loosing track of day of the week :)
Friday ( I think) we left Calgary and headed for Kelowna BC. Got away around 9am and got to Kelowna around 6pm. Not a bad day for driving, at least at the start, just overcast and cooler. Golden BC is right around 1/2 way and some interesting clouds so took a few pics when I stopped.

Took this between Banff and Golden, in front is one of the wildlife overpasses. Surprisingly enough they work and most wildlife do use them, although the 8' high fences they run along the highway helps...

Clouds in Golden BC

Between Golden and Revelstoke it started to rain and din't stop until Vernon which is about a half hour drive from Kelowna. Only one construction delay for about a half hour just before Roger's Pass summit.

My older brother lives in Kelowna so we stopped to see him. Can't stay at his place as he lives in a gated community and they have all kinds of rules so we stayed at his shop (he does millwork (cabinets)) so not the best place for photos but some nice sunsets while we were there.

Yesterday I decided to rebuild the flip up table in the motorhome. The old one was not the best made and wobbled a lot and people always try pushing on it and I thought it would come off the wall.

New one is made from 3/4” natural Birch plywood. Once I get home I'll take it out and stain and lacquer it so it will match the paneling fairly good. Monitor fits under it and the bottom is hinged o keyboard etc all fit under it.

This is also fastened a lot better so right now it is a lot better then the old one. I put a full 3/4" back on it, sticks out an inch or so on this side and about 4" on the other to cover some holes in the walls from a 12v power outlet that we have never used and an antenna outlet that I took out. It is also fastened to the wall using almost 3" long screws.

Only one incident building it :) I managed to catch my hand with the chisel. Was trying to heat up the old laminate and remove it and in one place to chisel went through and caught my hand so right now I have a cut about an inch long and about 1/4" deep just in the fleshy part of the hand and fingers, debated about going to get stitches but thought I would not and just used superglue. Seems to work pretty good and holding so far.

The first 2 photos are gorgeous. Must be overwhelming having so much natural beauty around you, it's a photographer's dream

Yesterday morning took the dog for a walk, took more pictures of the river from almost the same spot so not much different then what I posted before. Checked out of the campground that we stayed at then drove out to see Karen's friend. Later that I wanted but.... Had a good visit, thursday and yesterday had good visits, seemed to be feeling a bit better, still has a long road ahead. Got away from their place about 12:30pm much later then I wanted to. Mornings are cooler so wanted to leave before it got hot... When we finally got away it was +32 and going up fast. Filled up in Kelowna $1.48.9 a litre, for you south of us 4 litres is pretty close to a US gallon. Only issue with the motorhome was once running really hot it didn't like pulling away from stops but once going it had no issues, something to do with the heat. When it is cooler there are no problems.

We got to Revelstoke and filled up again for about $0.10 a litre more then Kelowna. Like home some of the high price is a road tax but like most governments they don't put it toward the highways so the roads are rough and need a lot of work. It was sill light in Revelstoke and was finally cooling off (Revelstoke was +28) when we got there so decided to keep going. We stopped overnight at the top of 10 Mile Hill just east of Golden, just in a roadside pullout. Noisy because semis came and went all night long so kind of a short interrupted night.

Sunrise in the Rockies :)

I love the almost surreal look!

This is looking down the valley that is beside the pullout rest area. It was +11 this morning when we got away. Stopped for gas in Camore where it was down to $1.17.9, only filled the back tank so we could get to Calgary where it will be probably another 10 cents a litre cheaper

The Rockies at Camore. The gov just opened a bike path that goes out to Banff. Surprised us at how many people were out using it, but nice to see. We only passed a couple die hard bikers that bike all the way through the mountains.

We got to Karen's sister place in Calgary at 12 noon. Will be here until Wed when we will drive up to Three Hills, only a bit over an hour and a half drive and stop and see my cousin there. Friday we will drive to the family farm by Outlook and stop over night, should be home Sat afternoon

All of the pics in this post were done with vividHDR in lively mode!

Great photo of the road bend, so well composed

More by accident then planning. We were just driving back to the highway from Canmore and knew I had to get a picture, this was about the only place I could get the motorhome off the road. I am sure I confused the heck out of other drivers with my iPad and arms stuck out the window :)

I wanted to get some more of other mountains but where I was there was no way to get off the road. It's a bit of a driving maze there getting on or off the highway.

A 360 degree pano at 10 Mile Hill, I tried with Photosynth but it was not cooperating so I used the app 360Cities. I wish it would lock the exposure so it wouldn't have the banding but still gives you an idea of what it looks like. If you zoom in at the back of the semi you will see a bit of our Motorhome. Two years ago we stopped at this same rest area but the starter died. No cell service no pay phone or call box so we stayed overnight then and next morning I ran across the highway and jumped the Center barricade, no nothing over that side either but a nice trucker gave me a ride back to Golden where I got a hold of roadside assistance and they picked me up and drove back up the hill. The driver was a mechanic and had it running within a couple minutes of getting there. Followed him back to Golden and an hour or so later left for Calgary with a new starter. I have CAA for RV Platinum which basically means I can be towed up to 375kms 3 times a year at no cost to me. That time they were prepared to haul me all the way back to Calgary which by their books is 360kms but didn't need to. My premium is cheap are around $200 a year and can be used with any other vehicle I own.

Things are going to get cut short....

Our house was broke into overnight. Didn't get a lot that we can think of. Steven said they took Karen's desktop and my Mac mini but left all the cameras and nothing else seems to be missing. Made quite a mess I gather. Karen's desktop is an older PC that she uses for the farm books so it will have to be replaced. The Mac mini is a first gen and not much on it, Steven found it at a pawn shop for $60.00 or so. Not sure if they took monitors or my PC desktop (that I don't use any more but it too is old. I guess police will be over taking fingerprints (not that that will do any good) but have to go through the hoops. Not sure what else until we get home but no point for the next couple days until police are done because they wouldn't let us in. We will head home tomorrow and see.... All the good computers are with us.
Just a pain in the rear....

OMG!! How awful... so sorry to hear this.

People can be such jerks...

What a pain, big hug Lzed. Our garage has been broken into twice and I know the mess they make is the worst aspect and they took some stuff which was of sentimental value and really would be quite useless to them, which pissed us off more as to why they bothered taking it!

Sor sorry to hear about the break-in, Larry. Hope you don't discover anything else missing and the clean-up isn't too laborious!

Thanks everyone!

We had moved in Regina before because of break ins. We used to own a house in the downtown core, nice old house and neighbourhood was generally pretty quiet. One year we had gone to the family farm for Christmas and our daughter Katina had to work so we came back and I think interrupted the thieves as most stuff got left. After that we had the garage broken into, the first time they took a mini disc stereo from our van. Our government insurance would not cover it (almost $1200 to replace it) because even though the garage was locked the van wasn't locked. In the end we never made a claim. Second time they took some tools but worst was we had a freezer full of meat that they dumped on the floor and left to go bad.

Soon after that we moved to our current home and in 15 years have never had an issue. I gather talking to Steven that all he could find missing was two old PC desktops and the Mac mini, all in all it could have been much worst. They were after computers, iPad etc, all the good stuff like our MacBook, iPad's etc are with us. I even brought along the PC portable which is the only newer PC that we have. I just hope they left the backup stick for the farm accounting. If they didn't Karen will have to redo the books from the last year end (accountant will have everything up to that point) and year end for the farm is June 30 so at most she will have to redo a couple months. Steven has a lot of money tied up in RC's that are still in his old room but he said they were all there. The mess is Karen's office and our bedroom so should be pretty minor I hope.

Nothing they took is worth claiming, the old pc's are worth only a couple hundred each at most and if we did claim our rates would jump far more then finding another PC....

I gather they got in through the dining room window but don't know if they broke it or what but Steven will close it up.

Just puts a sour note to come home too.

I was going to take pictures around Calgary but they will have to wait till another trip.

Oh, nothing worse than having to cut a trip short... :( Glad it seems the damage was minimal, no one is hurt, and really hope the farm accounting stick got left behind. :barf: xoxo

We got home at about 5:30 tonight, my son Steven was waiting at the house and being his normal self had supper waiting (beef barley soup, but the way he makes it it's more a stew then soup), shortly after that our other son David came around. In all it could have been a lot worst. They pulled the drawer out from under the bed and some stuff off the shelf in the closet. Took a bottle of rum Karen had in there. They found Karen's jewellery box and cleaned it out she said their was a wedding ring (it had been replaced when they had to cut this one off) but Karen said the edges were very sharp so maybe. On the way home I got thinking that Karen had an 1810 gold dollar that had been made into a necklace by her grandfather. Last time I looked the gold dollars from back then were worth under $300, buts the sentimental value.... May still be here and just have not found it yet.... Karen's office is a real mess but mostly paper strewn around. It's going to a job sorting it all out but Karen has her own way so I can't do much outside of stack stuff up. All the paperwork for the farm was kept in a plastic file box and we don't think they even looked in it, still closed and locked so nothing out of order there. As I mentioned at worst the accounting program will have the done again from the end of June so again it could be worst. If they didn't take the USB stick she uses for backup then it's fine.

Our neighbour who called the police said her dog barked a couple times and she saw a light on in our bedroom and thought maybe Steven forgot but a few minutes later when she looked the bedroom light was out but lights were on downstairs. She called police and they got there in under two minutes but by that time they were gone, probably spooked by the dog, left both front and back doors open. Finger print dust everywhere to clean up too. Could have been much worst.

Drive home was warm but the big problem was 40-50 mph winds that came from the south so spent the day battling side and head winds all the way home, I'm tired so will be having a real early night, have not slept much for the last couple nights either which doesn't help...

SO glad it wasn't too bad, Larry. I really hope you find the 1810 gold dollar necklace and the USB stick... Hope you got a good night's rest. <hugs>

Slept poorly, any little sound woke me up, ready to go back to bed when I got up, oh well... It will get better. Did some cleaning up last night, so that continues today, have to go get groceries today, tomorrow and next few days it's supposed to rain, will see....
