I like most of the B&W films - it's the lenses and sometimes the flash chosen that can cause B&W images to come out too dark . I don't care for Akira much (always too dark with B&W films) and John S. can be hit and miss with B&W films . Therefore I tend to go with Jane , Lowey , Helga Viking to...
In all seriousness , I think this Hipsta exercise has shown me more about B&W combinations I just can't get to work for me no matter what I try to do while in Hipsta post processing ... Those will undergo a process of elimination shortly .
Yes - vintage clothing Starzee & Rosecat ! ... *I offered to sort all the clothing into their proper colors , styles , etc. just as I have done in my own closet (with Rosecat's approval) but the owner just quickly ushered me out the door and mumbled she had to close early today (lol !)
Thank you - like many others , I just experiment and try to learn my way around a few hipstamatic combos and then see what might work for a given scene .
Here is an old Civil War Mill along train tracks : I used the Jane lens to show the front of the building better while toned BlacKeys B+W film provided the mood of an approaching storm.
Here is a first one from yesterday (small town historic main street) : Lowy +Tripple Crown + AO BW . I played around with settings to get the tone , look and feel that was present just before storms moved in . The depth of field control was to place a bit more emphasis on the center building...
I'll be focusing more on the B&W combos I mentioned - then find ssomething worthy to post . I'm not familiar with the "Rockstar" pak but I do have the individual lens , film and flash you mentioned .
P.S. I've been away for a while - back with my Nikon DSLR's for street / documentary...
May not be my favorite (yet) but here are a few I am experimenting with of late : Sergio + D-Type Plate + Tasty Pop , Vincent + BlacKeys XF , John S + AO DLX + Apollo and lastly Lumiere +AO BW + Tasty Pop ... Interesting to not forget about trying different flashes with these B&W film and lens...
I like the pak suggestions - desaturation (close cousin to Devo's de-evolution) will definitely work ! Another B&W film I will play with is US1776 which is a lower contrast , grainy film as Seattle is akin to Liverpool in terms of the atmospheric mood by the sea ... , Of course in Hipsta...
Of the recent Paks , Shimokitzawa looks like it would play nice in Seattle (Portland as well) ... I'll wait to see what our PNW friends have to share ?
OP here : A couple in color I will start with are : Lowy + Blanco , Helga Viking + Ina's 1935 . In B&W , I'll start with John S + BlacKeys SuperGrain .
Hello Fellow Hipstamatic Users - what are your favorite Hipstamatic Paks for overcast / drizzle outdoor (city / landscape) mobile photographs ? ... * I'll be taking a trip to the US Pacific Northwest (Seattle) where a significant amount of the time from Fall through Spring it can be shrouded...
I like my old school Hipsta B&W films better (BlacKeys SuperGrain. , BlacKeys ExtraFine , etc.) better as well as not having to fool with a light leak . I recently shot a small "Biscuits Only" shop with old school Hipsta B&W pacs .
I see Leslie has visited Chernobyl again for the first three shots (i.e. other worldly ) ... The no flash shot is interesting - will need to see it's no flash nuances to better judge it's color Hipsta profile .
