I love this thread. Numbers are everywhere, but largely ignored unless we’re looking for them.
This brings up something interesting I had not known before. The 9/10 notation in gas prices is something we don’t see here in Canada. Since gas is sold here by the litre the price is always something a bit over a dollar and to simplify it is shown in cents. Such as 112.9 for one dollar and 12.9 cents. For quite a while the price of gas hovered around the dollar point - a little below or above (99.9 to 1.00.9) and this system was devised to avoid having to change all the pumps recording mechanisms each time the price changed above a dollar. We just have to imagine the missing decimal.
It’s so ridiculous to me, I don’t even *see* it any more. Like we really need fractions for gas prices??The 9/10 notation in gas prices is something we don’t see here in Canada.
I would be quite happy to see the whole charade of $xxx.99 go away. What’s wrong with calling $4.99 $5.00 instead. It’s so ridiculous to me, I don’t even *see* it any more. Like we really need fractions for gas prices??
Psychological marketing.I would be quite happy to see the whole charade of $xxx.99 go away. What’s wrong with calling $4.99 $5.00 instead.
This is cool!
