Numerical detail.
The midges in this pic were in bright sunlight with their wings reflecting the sun on each beat. Most show 3 wingbeats, some look to have 2 1/2 and uncommonly I found a couple pushing 4 (might not be on this crop).
The shutter speed on this pic is 1/50 (0.02s).
Based on these figures I estimate these midges can beat their wings between 125 to 175 times a second, possibly more frequently.

It's an very old boiler or water heater or some such, about 2 feet across and maybe 4-5 feet tall, now serving as an outdoor planter. I thought the decorative cutouts were a nice touch.
Too big for that and no spout or handle that I could see. Some kind of deep bowl, 12-14 inches across or so. I love the bright colors and patterns contrasting with the alien plant thing growing out of it.
Somebody got frustrated trying to fold the map up again?
