The memorial is very moving and upsetting experience.

That reminds me of going to the Killing Fields in Vietnam and Hiroshima was pretty gruesome. There is nothing like experiencing a moment physically for the occasion to really strike home.

I spoke to a Cambodian lady recently who as a 13yo got caught up in the whole Pol Pot, killing fields scenario. Interesting but sad

Absolutely fascinating but as you say very distressing. All the intelligentsia were killed off such that the country still suffers from a lack of brain power. Apparently some of the Khmer Rouge still exist in government. I took one of those headphone walks and was in tears at the end. Everybody walked around in silence - it was eerie.
