For some reason, this tree on this street is always the first in downtown Santa Cruz to show real color as Fall rolls in.
Our neighbor’s tree across the street is the first one around here. Funny.
And our neighbor across the street has a lilac that blooms weeks before ours. Must be nano-climates or pico-climates. Maybe even yocto-climates.
This tree on Walnut Avenue is running second.
That’s a beautiful Victorian home too!

I don't know. I tried Merlin Bird ID on it, but the app didn't know either. I thought it might be a cormorant of some kind maybe?
