B&W RESULT:#83 Black & White Challenge

Yow. That sounds unusual. All that cutting & stitching, so long in surgery - back in the day he’d be in hospital for at least seven days - and probably for the course of the ABs. And perforated — suppose it depends exactly what that meant for his appendix, but I think the ABs would probably have been delivered via IV for 48 hours. deepop would know.

And your son is home in under 12 hours. Hope he follows his doctor’s orders and that there’s some good community nurse or similar back-up. Speedy recovery!
Surgery done laparoscopically (thru a scope) usually allows patient to go home in12-24 hours. If the surgeon goes in thru an open (larger) incision then one usually can go home once they're taking liquids by mouth and have their bowels in some working order. Bottom line is going home as soon as possible is always better.

Yes, I do remember nosocomial infections, and paralytic ileus was common enough after appendectomies when the ladies with the dinner trollies didn’t read the signs over the bed and the patient had a roast dinner five mins after surgery. And I scrubbed for a few, too — well before laparoscopic surgery, of course. Not the neat & tidy affairs they are now

Cheers!

Across the square from us is an Asian Fusion restaurant called Nama. We had dinner and cold drinks: this one is “The Best Ass In Town.” Better than a mule kick any day ;)

Every picture tells a story. And this is would be a sad one I think. I hate to see empty shops - the decline of the little independent etc etc. I’m trying to make the marks on the window into something, but failing. A very thought-provoking image for me.
Thanks Jilly and I'm glad I provoked a thought, even if it was a sad one. Unfortunately a lot of our towns in England are blighted in this way unless they're trendified. The working towns of the midlands are never going to be that chic I'm afraid.

That is crazy! I had 5 incisions but it was kidney surgery! I thought an appendectomy was supposed to be easy peasy with one little incision.

Normally they use two little incisions or at least that’s what the doctor said. Steven’s took a lot more time because it is not where it would normally be, in his case behind the liver and there for they had to have the long incision to get at it, I think third was exploratory when it wasn’t where it was supposed to be. In any case he is doing well, his surgery was on the Ninth of June and he will be back to work next week after almost a month off work. He is basically back to his old self.

Good heavens, how that time has flown. I can’t believe it’s been a month since his op!
