What are you watching?

Feels to me like TV and movies are picking back up again after the pandemic slump.

I'm looking forward to the last series of Better Call Saul, a prequil to and as good as, if not better than Breaking Bad. Just a couple of episodes of the 2nd series of The Flight Attendant to air and I can start watching that one too.

Also highly recommended is Undone. I don't know if it's been mentioned here before but its a timeloopy, sci-mystical family drama done in rotoscoping. The animation lends itself to scenes you can't really pull off with straight live action. The 1st series is 3 years old and stands on it's own but the 2nd series has just come out and was worth the wait for me. Rosa Salazar :inlove: and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad) star. Just a solid piece of work. Good story telling, well made.

And for those with the stomach for it, Fresh is a good horror/shocker. A lot (not all) of the awfulness is suggested rather than graphically shown (no gore porn this one) but it still made me want to look away several times. Good stuff, viewer discretion advised and all that.

Slow Horses is a great spy romp, not unlike Line of Duty without the breadcrumb trail. Halo has its high points and Moon Knight was absolutely great. Im really looking forward to the fourth season of Westworld next month and working my way through the first series in anticipation

Totally agree!

Thanks for the heads up… unfortunately this won’t be for me - I can’t do horror. :flushed:

I just finished the final season of Ozark. SO GOOD!!! I can’t say I was in love with all parts of the ending, but that’s because it was realistic and not a fairytale ending.

I've enjoyed Doctor Who going back to the original show. I'd watch it on the local PBS station, Channel 9. Unfortunately when it was revived in 2005 it was a period when I didn't have cable or the internet, so I never got a chance to watch it. (On a side note, I got a lot of reading done, though.) About ten years ago I finally had internet and a Netflix account, so I started watching it. I got through just the first series with Christopher Eccleston when the BBC pulled it and put it on their own streaming service. I didn't feel like paying for yet another one, so I had to stop watching it again.

Just last weekend, I discovered Doctor Who is on HBO Max. I've had that subscription for a while, mostly for their DC content like Peacemaker, Doom Patrol, and Titans. Doctor Who has been on HBO Max for about three years and I somehow never figured it out. So I'm binging on the good Doctor to make up for lost time. I'd like the get up to speed before Ncuti Gatwa debuts as the 14th Doctor. (Although to complicate matters, the current series is on AMC+ which I don't have. So frustrating.)

Its a contentious one for me Dr Who, having been brought up with it from the late Troughton era (Abominable Snowman), I parted company with the show after Tennant left and Matt Smith arrived (who I felt was as much good as a chocolate teapot). But the Dalek arc always drew me back in, so I watched intermittent episodes. It was around this time that the Beeb felt it would be a good idea to bring celebs into the show such as Kylie Minogue etc, also Tennants sidekick Catherine Tate (an annoying english comedian) seemed like a ridiculous choice and further estranged me from the series. Since then, I have watched the odd episode with Daleks in, but again, the inclusion of comedians such as Bradley Walsh has just turned me away from what was a great science fiction show.

I watched the season finale of Paramounts Halo last night. Despite a mid season slump and a really pointless story thread, the final episode was hard hitting and non stop action, ending on a cliffhanger. Considering its a game franchise, its a good solid space opera and the FX are stunning.

BritBox‘ claim to fame is “every episode ever of Dr Who“ . And it’s a very inexpensive sub.

Just finished Ozark too. I thought the ending worked. So nihilistic.
Ozark lost me in the third season. I like a series that has an end, it suggest the writers designed it that way rather than runnibg out of ideas. I might give it another go.

On a tangent Ncuti Gatwa was great in a wonderful show called Sex Education on Netflix.

I never heard his name until he was announced as the new Doctor. But I noticed that's the one thing everyone says about him, he was great on Sex Education. I doubt I'll have time to see that, though. My time is already so limited.

I thought the ending was good. There was a lot to process but in the end the Byrds we're true to form.
I was very angry with one aspect of the end of Ozark :angry:No spoilers for those that might watch it, but I'm sure you can guess what I'm annoyed with :(
Still as Rizole says, kudos for the writers actually ending it before running out of steam.

I agree. But, it felt “realistic”…. sad as it was.

I've ended up enjoying this law nerd doing a live reaction to the Depp Heard trial.

I'm not particularly interested personally but the sites I hang out on have been quite vocal about it so I have a pretty good idea what's been going on.

'Er on youtube started watching this law nerd commentories early this week, maybe 3 weeks behind the current action, and because it's on in the background I've been listening to it a bit like radio. Even though I know what's happened already, hearing the court case streaming from the beginning has been quite interesting. I've gained a deeper and broader perspective on the case than I've gotten from the cherry picked social media snippets.

Social media, at least the bits I'm looking at, seems to be quite clear that Depp is the victim and Heard the monster but what it hasn't seemed to pick up on is how they are both just awful, broken people. Looks to me that Depp has become the poster boy hero for all those bitter, disenfranchised "not all men" men out there. Heard losing will be some sort of vindication for something for some of them, I imagine.

Car crash TV, not dissimilar to Tiger King in it's compelling horror.

I'll admit I'm treating this thread more as a "What are you watching" than a "Favorite TV shows" thread. Hope that's not a problem.

I just started watching Ms. Marvel on Disney +. It might not surprise you to know that I am a big comic book nerd. I buy comics weekly (digital comics these days on the Comixology app. Don't have the room for physical books any more.) I started following the adventures of Kamala Khan aka the second Ms. Marvel when she debuted about eight years ago. For those that don't know, she's a Muslim Pakistani-American high school girl from Jersey City. She's juggling friends, family, school and discovering her powers. The comic is brilliant. The show is fun so far. Only one episode is out, but it's hilarious and poignant at the same time. I'm looking forward to more.
