Younger’s Project 365 - 2022

S

sorry to hear Juliana, after the month will Medicare pay you?
It’s hard to know since every time I call someone gives me a different answer. Up until last Saturday everything was ok but today it seems that the person who answered thought it wasn’t. I’m calling again tomorrow and I’m pretty sure I’ll get a different answer again.

Very pissed off today with Medicare. They’ll make sure to do everything they can to complicate one’s life. I’ll probably have to work for free for the next month because they can’t get anything right. So no inspiration for photos today.

Sounds like any sort of government run organization to me. Maybe they should be called disorganizations.

Are they alleging you didn’t bill properly?

No, they gave me the wrong information regarding my specialty recognition (back in September 2020!) and now my current provider number will be suspended until they bother to look at the additional documents I sent, which can take another 4 weeks.

Here in Australia there are so many different bodies for the same thing it’s not funny. None of them communicate with each other and every time you call a different staff member gives you a different instruction.

We have:
Australian Medical Council
AHPRA
Medicare

Each does a different thing and you have to be registered with all 3. But there’s no interaction between any of them, it’s like they don’t even know the others exist. I never came across this in any other country I’ve worked in so far (a total of 4 including Australia). Can’t speak for the whole world, of course. But it is extremely frustrating.

Well, I’m not even sure exactly how things are run here, but it’s often a complete mess not just within the health care sector. National authorities, local authorities, regional authorities and private companies etc.
You have my full sympathy :inlove:

Mind boggling! I always worked for some institutions (HMO or large hospital system) and they always had an office filled with people who did nothing but ensure that all the physicians were properly credentialed with various accrediting, insurance, and governmental agencies.

So after calling Medicare twice yesterday and a third time to the complaints line to lodge a complaint I woke up early as usual this morning and called them first thing. As expected, I heard a totally different explanation and this one today told me I couldn’t work at all.

The funny part is not even the Medicare people have access to the specialist registration people - they can only email each other. So the person this morning sent them an(other) email, and so did I. Three phone calls from them later, it seems they realised where the mistake was and decided I’ve been punished enough - fingers crossed. The specialist registration expert is working on my application today and the general registration person is trying to avoid my current provider number being suspended (because even within Medicare there are 2 departments that are independent but deal with the exact same thing for the exact same person and they too don’t communicate amongst themselves ). Best part is, neither could guarantee they would make these amendments in time :alien: but it CERTAINLY is better than nothing.

Seems the mess is soon over, for this time. Is this light chain a metaphor for the dysfunctional health care admin :) I could tell you a lot of wierd stories. Here’s just one. At the hospital in Uppsala - one of the biggest and well respected in our country, the gastro specialists are divided into to separate units, surgical and internal, but they are sharing the same corridor. They are not cooperating at all though. So if I have some issues with my ostomy things are getting complicated. If I choose for ex to contact the surgical unit they usually say: ”this should be a case for the internals, who have to contact them” And you can easily imagine what the internals say:confused:

I don’t think there’s an appropriate reaction for this and unfortunately this is very common in my occupation. All I can say is that I’m sorry on behalf of the half wits I have as colleagues (which are not all of us, some still have fully functioning brains!)

Looks like the noise I made all week payed off. Received an email from Medicare today saying all has been successfully updated. It means that patients won’t have trouble claiming their rebates and I won’t have problems using my provider number. Also means that I won’t need to cancel 3 weeks’ worth of consultations and can start at the high risk melanoma clinic this week, whose patients have been orphan for almost 3 months!
